4月になりまして、桜も見事に咲いております。本日は気温も暖かくなり、お散歩日和ではないでしょうか。
本日は、ガラスについてお話しさせていただきたいと思います。
ガラス制作は、主にホットワーク・コールドワークの２つに分かれており、吹きガラス(glass blowing)は、ホットワークに分類されます。熱せられたガラスをパイプの先端に巻き取り、息を吹き込み、ガラスを形成していきます。
ABUKUにて取り扱うガラス作品は、ガラス鋳造(cast glass)というコールドワーク技法にて制作されております。こちらは、石膏型にガラスを詰め、炉で高温に熱することでガラスを溶かしていきます。
パートドヴェール(pâte de verre)という古代メソポタミア時代に起源を持つ古代ガラス技法からガラス制作を始め、現在では、独自の制作方法を確立しています。
富士山の麓で生まれ育ち、刻々と変化する光と自然風景に、幼い頃から魅了されてきました。その後、東京そしてロンドンへの移住を機に、自然美への憧れを募らせていくのです。そして今も彼女は、自分が追い求める景色をガラスで表現し続けています。
彼女はこう語ります。
「光は希望。そして祈りであり、私自身もそうですが、皆さんが戻っていく場所だと考えています。だからこそ、光はすごく美しい。光がなければ、私たちは視覚として何も認識できず、存在すらしていない。ガラスの塊自体が宇宙であり、無数の泡は、私たち自身・皆が同じに存在する。流れは、全てにおける本質。ガラスは、光を透過するという特性を持ち、規則正しい原子構造をもたない非結晶という摩訶不思議な物質。「光」・「泡」・「流れ」、これらは私のガラス表現に欠かすことのできない要素なのです。私にとってガラスが救いであるように、誰かにとっての大切な存在となるガラス作品を創造していきたいと思います。」

Hello, everyone. Today's topic is about Glass.
Glass making is divided into 2 categories: Hot work and Cold work, Glass blowing classified as a hot work technique.
The glassworks are created using kiln casting process, a cold work technique. This involves putting glass into a plaster mould and heating it in a kiln until it melts. She started her glass-making journey with pâte de verre, an ancient glass technique that dates back to Mesopotamia, and has since developed her own unique methods.
The designer was born and raised in a village near Mount Fuji, where she has been fascinated by the ever-changing light and natural landscapes since her childhood. Later, She moved to Tokyo and London deepened her admiration for the beauty of nature. Even now, she continues to express the landscapes she seeks through her glasswork.
She said;
"Light is hope. It is a prayer, and I believe it is a place to which everyone can return. That is why light is so beautiful. Without light, we cannot perceive anything visually; we would not even exist. The glass itself embodies the universe, and the bubbles within represent our existence. Flowing is the essence of everything. Glass, as a unique substance that possesses the ability to transmit light, is truly mysterious. 'Light,' 'bubbles,' and 'flow' are key elements of my glass expression. Glass making is a kind of meditation for me. I wish to create glass works that become something meaningful to others."
